When you imagine the stress and danger of carrying a laptop about, or the pains of having to get home before you could use your desktop to browse the internet, you will quickly realize that the number of people browsing from mobile devices, which are very easy to carry about, outweighs that of those browsing from a desktop.
And for that reason, if your blog is not mobile friendly, you will be loosing out on so much traffic and customers that would have patronized your blog.
So in this article, I am going to show you at least 5 easy ways of how to make your blog mobile friendly.
Are you ready?
Cuz I am!
Then lets get to it.
1. Use mobile friendly themes.
Themes are frameworks that has already been designed and preconfigured to determine how a blog appears or looks.
Thus, themes that are mobile friendly are pre-coded and optimized for both desktop and mobile navigation.
If you are using a WordPress blog, then most of those templates are already optimized for mobile devices.
To find wordpress themes that are already optimized to be mobile friendly, just run a Google search for the phrase “WordPress mobile friendly themes” and check it’s demo before you chose any one you admire.
2. Use quick and simple design elements.
When you are designing your mobile friendly blog, make sure you avoid the use of fancy designs and rather opt for those quick and simple elements.
Below are the 2 elements you should avoid at all costs:
Flash is fond of slowing down the load time of a blog.
Secondly, Android and iOS devices does not support flash.
Thus, if you want your blog to load as quickly as possible, make sure you avoid using flash for your blog design.
Pop ups and refreshers.
Even though pop ups and refreshers helps a blog to capture new subscribers, make announcements as well as give out discount codes etc. They are however distracting and annoying to users on mobile devices.
So if your readers keep seeing pop ups that covers the whole screen of their mobile devices, they might get frustrated and leave your blog.
So instead of using pop ups and refreshers on your blog, include a small bar at the top of your blog to include your promotions, announcements etc.
3. Use appropriate font sizes and buttons.
The ideal font size for mobile devices should be 14px, this is because it will make it easier for readers to read your contents without issues.
However, for supplemental copies, you can set your font to 12px.
If you also have clickable buttons on your blog, make sure you design them correctly. Bigger buttons that has sizes 44px by 44px are perfect.
4. Add a search bar at the top of your blog.
Visitors who find interesting articles or products they stumble on your blog; either through search engines, promotions, or referrals are likely going to look for more.
And in order to keep them and minimize your bounce rate, make sure you include a search bar at the top of your blog to enable them input keywords to find more of what they need.
5. Add a viewport meta tag code.
Viewport codes feeds search engines with the information they need to correctly display the size and scale of a content on a device an internet searcher is using.
When you use a viewport code, visitors will be able to enjoy your content, both from a large desktop and a small mobile screen device.
So just copy the code below and paste it in the HTML<head> area for each page log your website.
<meta name=″viewport″ content=″width=device-width, initial-scale=1″>
