On this article, I am going to show you how to build your fanbase on social media as a music artiste.

There is no way you will become a successful artiste if you don’t have a large fanbase.

Fans are to an artiste what fuel is to a vehicle.

Because, as a car cannot move without fuel, so also a music artiste cannot become successful without fans.

It is your fans who are going to download, listen, stream and buy your music.

Above all else, your fans are the ones who are going to spread the word about you and your music career, and in so doing help you get more fans.

And for that reason, you need to focus more on getting fans while starting out your music career.

Who are your fans?

It is so unfortunate that lots of upcoming artiste mistake their social media followers for fans.

But am here to let you know that your social media followers are not your fans, but a collection of people with diverse interest who is very hard to reach.

Yes! The interest of those following your social media accounts varies extensively.

Especially those of you who like to grow your social accounts with “follow for follow”, without understanding the interest of those you are exchanging follows.

Secondly, even if you have people with the right interest following your social accounts, another problem you will have is being able to reach them at will.

This is because social media algorithm will be working against you, and based on the engagements you get, you will never be able to reach; even one third of your followers whenever you want.

That is why, you have 10k followers and cannot even get up to 50 likes on a single post you publish.

Therefore, you must start now to think of building a fanbase if you really want to become a successful music artiste.

When you have a fanbase!

The only time you truly have a fanbase is when you are able to contact or reach them at any given time.

And if you want to truly have a fanbase on social media, then you must have a large number of followers.

Take the ratio of 1:100 to rate your social media fanbase.

That is to say, for every 100 people that are following you on social platforms, only 1 is a true fan.

And from there, you can do the maths to know how many people you should have on your social accounts; in order to rate your true fans.

How to build your fanbase on social media as a music artiste.

There are so many ways to build your fanbase on social media, but in this article we are going to look at 2 which are paramount.

And they are: Consistent posting on social platforms and featuring top artiste.

1. Consistent posting on social media platforms.

If you want to grow your fanbase on social media then you have to be very consistent in posting.

That is to say, you must be able to post something on your social account every now and then.

But this does not mean you are going to post just about anything, you need the right contents that are going to keep people hooked as well as yearn for more.

You can read our article on the topic How to use social media effectively as a musician, if you want to know the right contents and time to post.

We also have another article: Basic content ideas to help musicians build their fanbase on social media, that will help you understand the 3 basic contents you should be creating as a music artiste.

2. Collaborate with top artiste.

Though this technique is usually expensive; as you will have to pay the superstar you will be collaborating, if you can afford it then you will soon build a very large fanbase on social media.

This is because the top artiste you are collaborating with already has a large fanbase who will have the confidence of also listening to you because you equalize their favourite artiste.

And you wouldn’t have hit that spot if you did not collaborate with him or her.
