Our bible verse of the day for Saturday April 16, 2022 will be taken from the book of Revelation 22:11 and it says:

Bible Verse:

For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

John 5:17.

That was how the Jews valued Sabbath, so that they would go against the Lord Jesus for performing a miracle on the Sabbath day.

Let’s see the rules of the Sabbath in Judaism in the next scripture.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.

On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 20:8-11.

And as we can see the Jews believed that God had finished creation and rested on the Sabbath day.

But in our scriptural text for today, Jesus counters the Father’s rest when He said; “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

What Jesus was trying ton say here was that the Sabbath day has not yet come, as He would reveal it later through the apostle Paul.

Therefore let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Colossians 2:16-17.
